CESR Conference 2009

CESR’s Conference “Preparing for the future: where to now for regulation in the field of securities?” took place in the former French stock exchange, the Palais Brongniart, situated Place de la Bourse, 75002 Paris, France on 23 February 2009.

A word from Eddy Wymeersch, Chairman of CESR

“CESR’s conference 2009 came at a time of considerable market turmoil following the financial crisis that began in the summer of 2007. This event also follows significant efforts by European securities regulators to implement a modernised regulatory framework and to converge practices.

The conference therefore sought to explore what regulatory changes securities supervisors may need to consider in the light of recent events. From a European perspective, it sought to evaluate what more needs to be done to create an integrated Single Market which addresses the needs of retail investors (for example through tailored prospectuses in the field of investment management); ensures adequate market transparency in increasingly interdependent global financial markets (where comparative financial information provided through IFRS is key) and addresses a critical element of successful financial markets: effective enforcement across an integrated market.”
